How it works

PDLC smart film, demystified.

PDLC stands for Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal. When power flows through the film, the crystals align and the film becomes transparent. Cut the power and they scatter, returning the film to a frosted state. All you need is a standard mains power point — our transformer ships with the correct plug for your country.

DIY Installation

Our standard remote-and-plug kit is fully DIY. The film applies like a giant screen protector with dry adhesive. The transformer plugs straight into the wall — no wiring, no electrician.

Want a wall switch? Call an electrician.

Hardwiring a wall switch into your home circuit must be done by a licensed electrician. The standard remote kit avoids this entirely.

Install guide

Nine steps to switchable glass

  1. 1

Clean the glass thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

  2. 2

Measure and dry-fit the film to confirm it fits, leaving a 2mm gap on all edges.

  3. 3

Peel the backing slowly and apply from the top, using a squeegee.

  4. 4

Work downward with the squeegee to remove all air bubbles.

  5. 5

Clip the busbar connector to the exposed film edge.

  6. 6

Connect the wires from the connector to the transformer.

  7. 7

Plug the transformer into a standard mains power point.

  8. 8

Test — your film switches from frosted to clear instantly!

  9. 9

Optional: seal the edges with neutral-cure silicone for wet areas.

Important warning

Do not use water during installation. Keep the glass surface completely dry. Water will damage the conductive layer of the film.
